Hello PayPal,

Just what exactly is your problem with Traffic Exchanges? all of a sudden? I mean traffic exchanges have been around for about twenty years now, and you’ve never had an issue with them. Now all a sudden You’ve gone on the warpath and started banning several of them from using your services at PayPal. And I just want to ask. Why Are You Doing This? All of this seemed to start shortly after you banned Traffic Monsoon, which was a Revenue Sharing site which hide itself behind a traffic exchange front. You assume all traffic exchanges are like the Traffic Monsoon model . And you would be 100% wrong!!!

Now personally I do not own a Traffic Exchange but I do have several good friends that do, and have made a good living from them. I myself has made money using them. That being said Traffic Exchanges  Are Not! Get Rich Quick Schemes, They are Not Ponzi Programs, They are not Pyramid Programs and They are Not MLM programs . What they are is a viable Advertising Platform used by free members as well as upgraded members. Who advertise there businesses or affiliate programs using traffic exchanges. They are allowed to advertise just about anything BUT there is stuff that is not allowed. So before you went on your little witch hunt maybe you should have read The Terms of Service found on each traffic exchange in the members are, Or you could have reached out to the owners and asked for it.

Another thing that really got under my skin was You would give a Traffic Exchange owner a warning by limiting there account. But you would refuse to tell them what they needed to do to fix the issue. That probably goes along with you not  really knowing what a traffic Exchange is. And not reading or asking for the TOS Terms of Service. That being said. You need to take a step back take a good look at what you are doing and what you have done put down you ban stick get to know better what a traffic exchange is stop banning traffic exchanges and lift the ban on the ones you already hit. And work with the owners so that they know what to do to stay in Compliance with your TOS Terma of Service. Because as it stand right now, They have been forced to go back to a service that stole thousands of dollars from several of them. All I ask is that you really stop and think about what you are doing. And get to know what a traffic exchange Is before you continue on you banning Crusade

Thank You

Scott Rohn

Great post Scott. It appears PayPal is moving away from processing for digital products and services. If that’s the case the traffic industry is not the only industry at risk for the PayPal “slap”. It may not be long when only physical products can be bought and sold through PayPal. And while many are moving to Payza, there is no guarantee they won’t eventually go down the same path. It won’t be long before a new payment processor will emerge (perhaps several) created specifically for companies and marketers of digital products, membership sites, legit MLMs, etc, in fact even as I write this Mardox is looking into doing just that. Maybe this whole PayPal mess will end up being a good thing for our industry, who knows.

scottrohn says:

Hi Ernie thanks for your reply. Your probably right I’m sure in the long run everything will work out. I was just asking them at paypal to take a closer look at what they are banning, And to give the owners a change to fix the issue

Jon Olson says:

Yeah this sucks on so many levels. But we allowed it to happen to ourselves. We continued to allow these garbage sites to advertise in the TE’s and we shoulda, coulda, woulda taken a better stance on it.

It’s not fair that PayPal has lumped us in the same boat as Monsoon, that was not a traffic exchange even though it used the front of one. However placing blame on them isn’t the only reason we finally got the slap from PayPal.

This will make us stronger. Allow us to really look at the DNA of our industry and weed out the rotten eggs.

Maybe in the future, PayPal will see traffic exchanges for what they were always meant to be…An advertising platform to get free and low cost traffic to your sites. A community of like minded entrepreneurs.

Maybe…But we cannot wait for them to decide our future.

scottrohn says:

Hi Jon thanks for your comment. Yea I know Traffic Monsoon is not the soul reason for all the bannings although what happened did kind of open up the flood gates.I have no doubt that in the long run things will turn out ok. But it would be nice if PP actually got to know what TE’s are and let the owners know what could have been done to prevent this

Paul Nulty says:

Paypal should just be honest and say we just don’t want to business with you anymore instead of assuming that a business is what they refer to as get rich quick or ponzi scheme, it’s a direct insult to every transparent and respectable, honest business owner that has been unfortunate enough to have been stung by the paypal brand management team. By the way the brand management team are doing a great job of destroying their brand and professionalism. They accused me of the same with one of my sites which offers creative advertising services and affiliate commissions but it’s not a traffic exchange as such and it has never been presented as a get rich quick or ponzi. So it’s not just traffic exchanges which are being targeted by Paypal. With that said it was the best thing that happened to me. There must be an underlying issue that Paypal is not sharing with us and to be honest I don’t even care. We have other options.

scottrohn says:

Hi Paul thanks for your comment. yea I know its not just traffic exchanges that have been effected. It would be nice if they told you wny you’ve be suspended and what could be done to resolve the problem, But in the meantime we’ll adapt as an industry and move on. I’m glad things worked out for you and your business

Thanks for your post Scott! Great replies Ernie, Jon and Scott. I think it’s a real bummer but could be a blessing in disguise after all. That will be so awesome 🙂

I do have to say the community was filling up with too many cookie cutter sites that lead to too many dead sites and so on. So this will probably help clean a lot of that up. It was getting too saturated with that.

scottrohn says:

Hi Barb thanks for both of your comments. I don’t know if to many cookie cutter TE’s is actually the issue. Yes I agree there are to many and allot of those are from owners who have 300- 500 members and think there a success and open a new TE. But I don’t think that has to do with why PP is doing this. In fact nobody knows because PP refuses to give a valid explanation

Mike Lawton says:

It’s a tough one for sure. PayPal is the online payment processor preferred by everyone; Debit card to access funds immediately, low fees, bank transfers, etc. Payza is not a viable option with there extremely high fees for everything including funding. Not to mention the trust factor you mentioned. In reality PayPal is a $50 Billion company who doesn’t need the industry at all. At that size they can give up/throw away a $5 Million Industry and it’s the equivalent to a normal person buying a candy bar. The monsters in the affiliate and MLM businesses pay with ACH, their own loaded debit cards and via check. I know this is not easy for the smaller companies but again it’s a reality check of how the online money making game is today. I am saddened for the good people in the biz that this will definitely cripple their online businesses.

scottrohn says:

Hi Mike thanks for your comment. You make allot of viable points. PayPal has been the preferred payment processor by everyone for along time. But unfortunately it looks like those days are coming to an end. And as far as Payza goes right now it seems to be the only option. With other options being looked at. PayPal as the right to do whatever it wants. But to do it with no explanation that’s not cool. That being said I think it gives the traffic exchange industry a change to reinvent itself and become what it was meant to be a viable advertising platform. I remember the MLM debit cards I used to belong to GVO and I had the GVO debit card. It looked cool but had no money on it Ha Ha Ha

Andrew Stark says:

Here’s some reasons why they would do it.

#1 A large number of sites which break Paypal T&C’s are advertised, so guilt by association.

#2 Fraud, sadly people will create fake accounts and buy advertising for aforementioned sites that are poor quality. When the dreaded chargeback arrives it looks bad on the owner despite them actually being the victim just as much as the owner of the card.

#3 Digital products are getting more focus as authorities want to tax them the same as physical goods, and doing that creates a whole world of pain, hence this industry could just be the tip of the Iceberg for all affiliates.

#4 Someone somewhere high up in paypal might have bought some advertising and found the results were crap? It’s amazing the grudges that some people can have?

Overall it does suck, but if the whole community focused on advertising quality products rather than snake oil this situation might have a happier outcome.
